Ironing

Ironing and Crystallized™ Swarovski Elements

Crystallized™ offers certain products that have special Hotfix glue on the underside of the crystals. These products can be easily applied by using heat - for example, an iron (no steam - water and steam adversely affect the application results).

Ironing

Ironing method of application can be used with:
  • Flat Backs Hotfix
  • Transfers with Hotfix
  • Crystal Fabric

You can use a simple iron press or a conventional iron. Best results are obtained with an iron that has no steam holes in the sole plate.
Just iron onto your fabric, e.g. T-shirt or jeans, by following the steps below.

  1. Use a flat, stable surface for ironing. Use a non-steam iron (no steam holes) if possible. Do not use steam.
  2. Set iron to to moderate setting, like silk or wool (120 °C - 170°C | 250°F - 340°F)
  3. Cut as close as possible to design.
  4. Peel off white backing and discard.
  5. Position design on fabric with the Hotfix glue side on the garment.

  6. Turn inside out. If necessary, tuck a piece of thick paper into the item of clothing, under the crystals. (This will prevent the crystal elements leaving indentation marks on the other side of the garment.)

  7. Place an ironing cloth between your iron and your garment to protect your garment from the heat. (The underside of your garment should be facing up).

Ironing cloth can be a piece of calico, cotton material, or baking paper.
  8. Place heated iron directly on top of where the crystal/transfer is. Do not move the iron to and fro. Apply moderate pressure. (Work this way throughout the crystal transfer area if you have a large piece of design hotfix transfer.)
  9. After about 10 seconds, lift the iron away. Use your hands over the ironing cloth and press down on the crystals/transfer area with a firm pressure.
  10. Wait till it cools and SLOWLY peel back the transparent foil to check if the crystals have fused to the garment. If not, repeat from step 8 again for a longer time.
  11. To finish, allow piece to cool down. Then carefully remove transparent foil.
These detailed steps only seem to be overly long and complicated because in reality, it is really quite easy.
