Ashley Buttons wire crochet bracelet

Following on from my "new" technique of wire working and wire crochet and giving into the impulse (finally) of attempting something with buttons buttons buttons ... I made this small bracelet for my niece (Ashley).

Each of the buttons are wireworked and topped with beads individually. They are then woven into the wire crochet base - which is long enough to be folded over so it nicely protects the wearer. The 2 halves of the wire crochet base are sewn together (with wire). The clasps are make shift using donut shell beads and metal wing beads: tucked under as much as possible without losing functionality.

Approximate length: 15-15.5cm

Approximate weight: 25 grams

Materials

* brass wire - silver plated - 0.25mm dia (both for the button-heads and the crochet)
* hook: Clover 0.7mm hook
* shell and plastic buttons
* seed beads (6/0) and crystal beads
* clasp: from shell donut bead and Metal Wing bead (as the T-bar)

Construction Notes

Photos below to show the work sequence.

1) When making the buttons, spread the wire apart to achieve a neater twist. Start twist as close to the (button) head as possible.
2) Do not over-twist otherwise you will twist off the whole head.
3) Cut the ends after the twist is done to make the ends even and ready for weaving into bracelet.

For the crochet base, take into account the wrist size (the bracelet should sit quite snug with only a bit of space) plus any allowance you might have to make for the type of clasp you will be using. After you have made the right length, keep going. Remember you will be folding this over in half.

After the piece is complete, you can end off normally. Leave some tail to be woven into base and neatened. Flatten the wire base by rolling with bottle. Will give a smoother finish against the skin and a more professional and neat finish.
