The Birdie Trio - felted, wire crochet necklace

Handmade wire crochet necklace embellished with felted and beaded birdies (CC83)

This is like a summertime necklace because it makes me think of summertime when the happy birdies are out and singing away in their happy little voices.

Each little happy birdie has been hand needle felted and embellished with beads and "eyes". They sit happily together each day on their fine wire, crocheted by hand and finished off with a secure, matching, fancy lobster/parrot clasp.

The necklace is surprisingly lightweight: as airy as summer. It sits comfortably on the neck and must surely be a delight to behold.

Some Construction Notes

Pictures above show the details of each little birdie. They are worked first. The the central triangular focal base is crocheted from fine (0.25mm) silver plated quality brass wire. Crochet hook about 1.75mm was used.

The birdies are then positioned and sewn onto the wire base (using wire to sew on). I then used Miyuki lime green bugles and beading thread to embellish the focal base together with a random smattering of green shell twigs.

The necklace cord

Miyuki bugles are threaded onto wire. Then it is crocheted, in circular fashion. 2 pieces are made to the required length. Each side is attached to the triangular focal base and then the clasp is attached.
