Wedding Bridal Necklace with Fluff, Flourishes, and Nostalgia

Handmade white necklace - beaded embroidery & crochet (CC82)

handmade wedding bridal necklace with Flourishes

This necklace is ideal for the modern bride looking for a touch of modern asymmetry while holding dear the gentle looks and exquisite feel of the vintage nostalgia. Necklace in whites and off-whites with a central embroidered piece of beaded swirls and flourishes. Hung at an angle with a hand beaded cord and with a hidden side clasp.

This piece was created for the YOJ (Year of Jewellery) challenge at the Australian Beading Forum. Challenge Theme is : Flourish.

The central piece is recycled. It originally came from a wedding invitation. I kept it thinking it was so lovely and had such (jewelry) potential and sure enough, when this "Flourish" challenge came along, it seemed to be a perfect match. The flourishes already inherent in the piece were enhanced by introducing bead embroidery over the piece, with special emphasis paid to the flourishes and swirls.

The nostalgia is provided by the looks of the piece and its flourishes as well as by the use of vintage beads.

Some Construction Notes

After bead embroidering the central piece, I wanted a necklace cord that both matched it but would also be a bit different from the same-old-same old kind of cording.

The necklace cording is specifically designed to enhance the uniqueness of the piece.

  • hand crochet cording with double-sided beading for most of the cord and single-sided beaded to make the loop
  • clasp at the side and hidden
  • after the cording is done, it is further embellished all along with very fine pieces of roughly cut V-shaped organza and lawn. This creates a fun "organic fluffy" look. Each "fluff" is topped with a 4mm vintage acrylic bead with AB coating. (The beads are over 25 years at the very least).

The side clasp is a button and loop clasp. The button is hidden on the underside so the entire necklace looks like a single continuous piece.
