Cowls for Winter 2010

Warm Cowls for Cold Winters

Beaded Felt Owl brooch

This cowl page originally started in "scarfs and necklets 2010" but even though I have not made cowls before these here, I love them so much that I think more are on their way. So i have decided to have the cowls all to themselves here - a little Cowl Community. On the right here, is my little long time buddy called "Rambo" who has been dragged into being my model whenever I need a neck and face.

Crocheted Cowls Neck Warmers

Glorious Retro Cowl Neck Warmer (CC0069A)

This is the first time I have ever made these cowls. And hey, this must be love coz I just love them. Warmth and Cozy supreme. My first one is in Retro colors (huh - no surprise). It is the most convenient thing to wear. All Free Size. You just loop and drape or loop and double over for the scrunchie extra cuddly look.

From everything so far ... this is by far, my very favourite. It is extra extra warm. Beautiful for a chilly winter's day - be it out shopping, working, picking up the kids, going for a function party, or off to the ski snowfields.

It looks deceptively small but it does take a lot of yarn - hence that extra warmth. And anyone can wear it and feel good! Free size. Made from Cascade 220 (100% Peruvian Highland wool).

Pete Cowl

I call this the Pete-Cowl because I made this intending it for Pete my DH. However he is very much on the conservative side (I should have known. I did know but was hopeful ... sigh!) and not having seen any of his business colleague nor his drinking Aussie buddies wear a cowl, he rejected my pressie. He did however love the colors.

I meant to list this as soon as I got around to doing all the photographs and writing up about it (such interesting stuff. Not) but before I could do something, something even better happened. I found out about someone who would probably have a better use and need for this than my Pete would on his snowy ski mountain. And so this cowl has happily gone to "Uncle Owen" who is recovering from surgery but is facing a very cold winter right now. (Uncle Owen is the uncle-in-lay of someone I consider a friend.)

Below are some other photos that you can click for more details. It has been done in colors that would be appreciated by the male gender and also by the female (who is always more flexible where these things are concerned). Pure wool and has been conditioned to doubly ensure that it is not scratchy.

There are many ways to wear a cowl - which makes them remarkably versatile. You can change your fashion look as well as adjust the amount of warmth around your neck just by adjusting the cowl arrangement. And Rambo also shows how it can be worn over the head - which gives instant protection to those cold vulnerable ears.

Long Cowl for winter I sent off the cowl before I remembered to record down proper dimensions so here I can only document the length of it.

Mini Cowl - Golden Streak (CC0069B)

This mini cowl is made from banana fibre - and it is a most delicious discovery for me. This is the first time I have had banana fibre. Not long ago, I had not even heard about it. It has proved to be a most satisfying discovery. And there are bonuses plus plus ...

This mini cowl is made from totally natural banana fibre and the plus plus is that it is handspun (by hardworking Nepalese ladies in Nepal) and these fibres are recyceld. So it is great for everyone.

This banana fiber cowl has great drape. Like wearing thicken coils of silk!

With mini cowls you do no need to loop around twice. It is super easy .. just loop over head and adjust to get the loop and drape you want. And as my buddy "Rambo" shows, you can also wear this mini cowl draped over the head for that special look while protecting your ears from the chill winds.

Care of Banana Fiber
An ecological product that is great for you and for the planet. Gentle wash. Dry flat. Don't worry when the item shrinks up and hardens when wet. It loosens up and returns to its super soft, pliable state as soon as it dries.

Multi Colors Mini Cowl (CC0069C)

This mini cowl is made from Recycled, Handspun Banana fiber from Nepal. It has super drape.

This has been hand crocheted with non-repeating color stripes. As the phots and Rambo bear shows ... you can quite dramatically different looks from just this one cowl.

Being a mini cowls you do no need to loop around twice. It is super easy .. just loop over head and adjust to get the loop and drape you want. And as my buddy "Rambo" shows, you can also wear this mini cowl draped over the head for that special look while protecting your ears from the chilly winds.
