As part and parcel of health issues, I reckon that promoting ways to promote the health of our planet, not to mention ourselves and our loved ones, is as important as any health topics we can write. Hence, as part of shCredo's mission, we have included this section on Eco-Tips.

Denture Tablets as a Cleaning Aid
I have just discovered how versatile the humble denture tablet is - it ain't just for dentures! Most denture tablets on the market (e.g. Polident) come in tablet form and fizzles as they dissolve in water. They contain baking soda which is why they are so effective in removing bacteria, mold and hard water stains.
Denture tablets can be used to clean:
Coffee Makers and Decanters
Hard water leaves mineral deposits in your coffee decanters (whether they be made of glass or metal). This will slow your brewing as well as affect the pure taste of your coffee. Denture tablets will fizz away these deposits as well as clean out bacteria.
- Drop 2 denture tablets into your coffeemaker and fill it with water.
- Run the coffeemaker. Discard the water.
- Rinse the coffeemaker once or twice.
- optional: If you don't feel it is clean enough, you can brew once or twice with plain water. Discard water between each brewing.
Crystal and Glass
Glass and crystal containers are notoriously vulnerable to acquiring the dull look. Fresh flowers places in a vase will often leave a residual ring that is almost impossible to eliminate completely. Not any more! Denture tablets can help clean crystal and glass goblets, vases, containers, coolers, boxes, etc.
- Drop in 1 denture tablet into a water filled vase.
- Allow the fizzing to stop completely. The fizzing will remove the scummy mineral deposits.
- optional: If you have a heavily stained container, you might want to try 2 tablets instead of one.
Diamonds
Even your precious diamond (jewelry) can be brought back to maximum sparkle with the use of denture tablets.
- Dissolve a denture tablet in a glass of warm water.
- Drop in your diamond jewellery.
- Let sit for about 5 minutes (or as per instructions on the box).
- Remove jewellery and rinse.
Drain - how to Unclog
Drains tend to clog up over time from bits of food and other debris being caught in the pipes. Denture tablets is one easy way to unclog it.
- Drop 2 tablets into the drain.
- Run hot water down the drain for at least 2 minutes.
- For stubborn clogs, repeat this process till the drain runs freely.
Enamel ware
- Fill the enamel pot or pan with warm water.
- Depending on the size of the enamelware, drop 1 or 2 tablets in.
- Once the fizzing has finished, your items should be clean.
Shower head
Sediments can often get clogged in the pinholes in the shower head. This causes the flow to be slower/weaker. Use denture tablets to easily rid yourself of this clogged hole.
- Take 2 denture tablets, place it in a plastic bag and tie it around the shower head.
- Turn on water enough to fill the bag.
- Leave it overnight and by morning, the shower head should be unclogged and clean.
Toilet Bowl
Porcelain fixtures like toilets, bathtubs and sinks respond well denture tablets.
- Drop 1 denture tablet into the toilet bowl.
- Leave for about 20 minutes and then flush.

Yeah! The realization of a Dream and the Start of a New Adventure
Clearly Green Range
For 2 years now, I have been thinking about and hoping to start a new line that is close to my heart ~ to carry eco-friendly products. Something that is good for our planet, for us (and I don't mean just the humans!) and for the future generations, be they trees, fishes, or mankind.
This year (2009) I thought would be the year I could start with some Green products. However the downturn of the economy greatly affected me and I have been unable to find my way clear to sourcing new items in this range.
Serendipitously ("Thank you Universe!") it has now come about, propelled both by my on-going dream as well as fueled by my latest craze: felting.
I am overjoyed and delighted (to bits!) to announce that my ClearlyChosen store has now started its Clearly Green Eco-Friendly range.
The first types of items I have been lucky enough to hunt down are sustainable, recycled yarns, felting wool, wool tops (rovings) and the like. They all come from the hard-working hands of the workers in Nepal. They are all sustainable products - many recycled (like Recycled Sari Silk yarn and fibers) and as a bonus, the sale of them helps sustain the livelihood of those skilled workers in Nepal.
Whoever reads this, I hope you will come by and visit our Clearly Green Eco-Friendly range.
And if the sun continues to shine my way, I surely plan, hope, wish, visualize bringing more and more eco-friendly green products and not just in the yarn and fiber range.
